History of CABC

In the fall of 1999 with few Christian families gathering together, the idea of church planting and serving the Chinese-American community was envisioned. As a result of much prayer and supplication, the group commenced afternoon Sunday Worship by renting at West Monmouth Baptist Church in Freehold, NJ. As such, the Chinese American Bible Church (CABC) was established. The Word of God was preached in Cantonese and interpreted in English. As a response to the need for children's ministry, Children's Sunday School was instituted shortly after. In 2002, CABC began to conduct separate Sunday afternoon services in English and Cantonese to meet the needs of a growing congregation. Moreover, Children's Worship Service, AWANA, Youth Fellowship, Adult Sunday School & adult fellowships were incorporated to further reach and disciple all ages.

Throughout the years, God has proven faithful to CABC by His provision for a place of worship as well as Biblical instruction. The brothers and sisters of West Monmouth Baptist Church have demonstrated great love and hospitality by allowing CABC to call their church building "home" for almost a decade. Furthermore, it is God's abundant grace that sent many loving servants of His to minister throughout the years including some who traveled from great distances.

In the midst of all this growth, the church realized it would eventually need a building of its own and sought the Lord's guidance through constant prayer. During the summer of 2008 and in His time, our sovereign God presented before CABC a building that is located near the original church home. Blessed with an abundance of love, unity, and dedication to God's will, the purchase, and renovation of the building were accomplished without much delay. CABC held the first Sunday Worship service in its new church home on the morning of September 27, 2009, and is presently at this location. On March 27, 2010, the congregation held a sacred assembly and dedicated the new church building to God. The day was celebrated joyously with families, friends, and visitors.

Between 2010 to 2019 God has watched over CABC through many challenging times and changes. Regardless of the journey, not only is Christ in us and we are in Him. He is also over us to perform His purposes for His Kingdom’s glory. We have learned to count our blessings.

In January of 2013, with a growing number of Mandarin members, the Chinese worship started using both Mandarin and Cantonese dialects and the Mandarin Sunday School began. The Mandarin cell group was also added in addition to the already established Cantonese and English speaking cell groups. As an outreach effort, the Ladies Tea event was also established during that year.

In May of 2018, we’ve joined the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Baptist Convention of NY (BCNY) Metropolitan New York Baptist Association (MNYBA) as a member church. We became committed monthly sponsors for missionaries from Word of Life, Awana International, and Ethnos360. We are also committed to the monthly financial support of Christian academic institutions: Pillar College, and Canaan International Bible Institute. Although overall, there were no significant changes in the total number of members, between 2010 to 2019, twenty-one new converts were baptized in addition to others who had become members from membership transfers from other churches. Some young adult members have moved to other states due to careers and have served in their local churches. During this period of time, a Young Adult Fellowship was formed.

In addition to other ongoing ministries, God has started the ping pong ministry at CABC which met twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) where the gospel was shared faithfully since 2014. A community formed with this ministry where people have become friends from the local area and as far as Staten Island NY and Picatinny NJ. Not only there was growth in the overall participation but the number of people who attended the gospel sharing grew as well and responding which led to Q&A sessions for seekers.

There were other surprises as well where God sends in people from the local community. As a result, an English as a Second Language (ESL) class has restarted in 2019 using the Bible as the main source. Additionally, the Ladies Fellowship was also formed in 2019. And the Awana program continues faithfully every Friday night where boys and girls are reached with the Gospel of Christ and being trained to serve God. The Awana parents group has developed into a Bible Study group in 2019.

We recognized that these blessings are not just programs and what we do for God, but God using CABC to reach all people for the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. Laboring in obedience, God allows us to faithfully fulfill His Great Commission with zeal. To God be the Glory in Jesus’ name! Amen!
